Artist's Description
The Mussenden Temple is a round stone structure perched precariously close to the edge of a high cliff overlooking Castlerock Beach in Northern Ireland. It was built by Frederick Hervey (A.K.A. Earl Bishop) to be used as his library. The inscription on the outside reads: "Suave, mari magno turbantibus aequora ventis e tarra magnum alterius spectare laborem" which translates to "Tis pleasant, safely to behold from the shore, the troubled sailor, and hear the tempests roar."
This structure offers panoramic views of Downhill Beach and The Village of Castlerock down below and is simply breathtaking to behold in person. Who wouldn't want this amazing place as their own personal reading room?
